History
Istanbul Gelişim Vocational School, which was established in accordance with Article 2 of Law No. 2547, was transformed into İstanbul Gelişim University by Law No. 6114 dated 17 February 2011 and has been operating in İstanbul Avcılar since then. In 2008, the Library Directorate was established within the Vocational School and Mr. Alev Dülger started the library activities as the first Library Director.
In 2011, the Department of Library and Documentation Department was established and Mr. Ahmet Şenol Armağan was appointed as the Head of Department. The library services carried out at that time in one campus have been carried out in 2 campuses in 2012, in 3 campuses in 2014, in 4 campuses in 2017 and in 5 different campuses as of 2018, in line with the growth of our university. Thus, 4 branch libraries have emerged in the Central Library. These Branch Libraries are as follows: Vocational School Library (MYO), Art and Engineering Library (SMK), School of Foreign Languages Library (SFL) and Health Sciences Library (SBK).
As of 2018, the Library activities are continued with a total of 15 employees including 8 full-time, 1 part-time 9 Library Staff and 6 Assistant Staff. Six of our employees are graduates of Information and Document Management or equivalent. 3 Library staff is a graduate or student of another field and works as a Library Officer. Assistant staff, high school and secondary school graduates.
In 2011, library collection development activities were initiated with 5,500 printed materials. In 2018, the library collection consists of a total of 230,000 materials, of which 50,000 printed materials and 180,000 electronic materials.In 2018, the number of library members exceeded 8,800.
Since 2012, the duties and responsibilities of the coordination of the publishing activities of our University has been given to the Department. In this context, 61 books were published until 2018. In addition, 3 academic refereed and 1 popular journal in total, 4 printed and electronic journals are regularly published.
